Bands Who Didn't Make It: Hurricane
In the debut edition of "Bands Who Didn't Make It", I present Hurricane out of the late 1980's
Part of the appeal of streaming apps, and SiriusXM stations like “Hair Nation” and “Ozzy’s Boneyard” is an element of discovery when some deeper cuts are played. That could be an obscure song by a popular band, or a "Who’s this?”, “This is a good song.”
One such experience for me happened when the song “I’m On To You” by Hurricane came on “Hair Nation” a while back. It’s definitely got the 80’s vibe to it, from the 1988 album Over The Edge, with a little something different. Almost extra, in a way.
Check it out:
Turns out Hurricane has roots of familiarity in the 80’s rock scene. Lead guitarist Roberts Sarzo is the brother of Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Whitesnake, Dio). Bassist Tony Cavazo is the brother of Carlos Cavazo (Quiet Riot, Ratt).
Lead singer Kelly Hansen is best-known now as the lead signer of the modern rendition of Foreigner (since 2005), which has one original member (Mick Jones).
Hurricane probably arrived a little late to become as big as they could have been, as there was surely some oversaturation of similar acts and the rock scene was on the verge of changing.
