Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar dead at age 58
On Wednesday, Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar was found dead in his Nashville apartment.
After friends and family were unable to reach him for several days, according to TMZ, Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar was found dead in his Nashville apartment on Wednesday. His first wife, Gayle LaBar-Bernhardt, found him. He was 58 years old.
LaBar joined Cinderella in 1985, and played in all four of the band’s studio albums-including their multi-platinum debut Night Songs and multi-platinum follow up Long Cold Winter. Cinderella’s last studio album was 1994’s Still Climbing, and during a podcast appearance in 2016 Labar took the blame for the band’s prolonged inactivity. He released a solo album, One for the Road, in 2014.
"I can only speculate, but I believe it's all my fault. It's no secret that I've had a drinking problem. And it showed its ugly face on one of those [cruises that CINDERELLA played]. I guess that's what caused a rift… When I fell out on one of those cruise ships in front of everybody — like, basically O.D.'d — that's when the band, and mostly Tom, took notice and was, like, 'What the fuck?'"
LaBar’s surviving Cinderella bandmates, vocalist Tom Keifer, bassist Eric Brittingham and drummer Fred Courcy, released a statement Wednesday night.
“Heavy hearts cannot begin to describe the feeling of losing our brother Jeff. The bond between us over decades of creating music and touring the world is something that we as a band uniquely shared," read a statement from LaBar's former Cinderella bandmates Tom Keifer, Fred Coury and Eric Brittingham. "Those memories with Jeff will be forever alive in our hearts. It’s unimaginable that one of our band brothers has left us. We’re sending his wife Debinique, his son Sebastian, family, and friends our deepest condolences. Jeff’s memory and music will be with us forever."
