Rumors of ill health dogged Freddie Mercury for years, and the final Queen album during his life arrived 30 years ago
Rumors of his ill health trailed Queen frontman Freddie Mercury for years. He ultimately succumbed due to complications from AIDS on Nov. 24, 1991, at the age of 45.
Owing surely to Mercury’s declining health and unpredictable ability to work, Queen worked on their 14th studio album, ultimately titled Innuendo, through most of 1989 and 1990. Per Ultimate Classic Rock, it was released on Feb. 5, 1991. So Friday is the 30th anniversary.
The 12th and final track, “The Show Must Go On”, stands as a melancholy finale for Mercury. Innuendo was the last Queen album released during his lifetime, as you might have guessed.
