Motley Crue to kick off 40th anniversary celebration this weekend
It's been 40 years since Motley Crue came together, and the actual date they did will kick off the celebration
On Jan. 17, 1981, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee jammed together for the first time. Once Vince Neil and Mick Mars came aboard, Motley Crue was formed. The rest was thoroughly documented history, which was eventually initially recalled in a "Behind The Music” episode I saw way too many times. The band’s uniquely-written biography, “The Dirt”, was released as a full-length biopic in 2019.
With their 40th anniversary coming this weekend, the “Crue” is kickstarting a year of celebration. There’s a birthday card fans can sign on Facebook, with a tease of announcements to come on Sunday.
Motley Crue has been successful on both traditional and modern fronts, with over 100 million albums sold worldwide and 1.6 billion streams across digital providers. Their debut album, Too Fast For Love, will mark its 40th anniversary on Nov. 10. There’ll be coverage of the album here on Rock Pedia, in written and podcast form, to mark that anniversary.
