On This Day: Pearl Jam releases debut album
On Aug. 27, 1991, Pearl Jam entered the emerging grunge rock scene with 'Ten'.
Nirvana is credited with changing the rock music scene, and they surely were at the forefront of the grunge movement. Pearl Jam offered their entry into the fray on Aug. 27, 1991, with the release of their debut album Ten.
Ultimate Classic Rock has a nice outline of the Pearl Jam origin story, from roots in the band Mother Love Bone before tragedy struck to finding Eddie Vedder to be the lead singer to changing the band name (originally Mookie Blaylock, after the NBA player). Success would slowly build, with Ten’s third single, “Jeremy” taking over radio and MTV in September of 1992.
What’s your favorite song from Ten? See the clip below for mine. I’ve also included a clip featuring the entire album.
