Red Hot Chili Peppers set to cash in nicely selling song catalog
As many artists sell off the rights to their catalogues of work, Red Hot Chili Peppers have joined the wave.
With music streaming not paying out well and touring on hold for more than a year now, many notable artists have been selling their song catalogs for large lump sums. Examples include Bob Dylan recently netting $300 million from Universal Music Group, and Stevie Nicks getting $100 million from Primary Wave.
According to multiple reports, Red Hot Chili Peppers will sell their publishing rights to Hipgnosis Songs Fund for around $140 million. So they aren’t going to “Give It Away”, or risk eventually having to live “Under The Bridge”.
Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith recently confirmed the band is working a new album, their first since 2016’s The Getaway. Guitarist John Frusciante came back in 2019, so the new album will be his first with the band since 2006’s Stadium Arcadium.
