Rock Pedia Discoveries: Whitesnake "Slip of the Tongue"
I'm late to the party on the title track to Whitesnake's 1989 album, but maybe you are too?
An entirely new rhythm section was in place around frontman David Coverdale for Whitesnake’s 1989 album Slip of the Tongue, then guitarists Vivian Campbell and Adrian Vandenburg were out of the mix due to leaving the band and a broken wrist respectively.
In stepped legendary guitarist Steve Vai, who had left his post in David Lee Roth’s band. The result was a shift away from what Whitesnake had done previously, and it was the last album the band would do for awhile as Coverdale eventually moved on to a collaboration with Jimmy Page.
A reissue of the B.B. King cover “Fool For Your Lovin’”, one of my favorite Whitesnake songs, made it onto Slip of the Tongue. But I had just skipped over the title track over the years. As I recently found out, that was mistake. Check it out:
